About PAGES Files

.pages Icon

A .pages file is an Apple Pages document. The Pages application is part of Apple's 2026 "Creator Studio" app collection (formerly iWork), along with Numbers and Keynote. It is available on macOS and iOS, and as a web application via iCloud.

A Pages document may be a report, essay, newsletter, resume, or any other type of text document. Apple Pages uses the .pages format when saving files, similar to the .docx format used by Microsoft Word. Apple device owners, including students, professionals, and casual users, commonly create, edit, and share .pages files.

Since Pages documents are specific to Apple devices, users on other operating systems may experience difficulty opening them. For example, a Mac user may create a report in Pages, then email it to a Windows user who cannot view or edit the file.

Converting PAGES Files

To avoid incompatibility issues, you can convert .pages files to more standard formats. Some options include Microsoft Word Document (.docx), OpenDocument Text Document (.odt), Portable Document Format (.pdf), Rich Text (.rtf), or plain text (.txt).

A PDF may provide the closest visual match to the original file, but it won't be editable like a typical word-processing document. A Microsoft Word document will be editable like the original Pages file, but it may lose some formatting data, and certain elements like images, charts, and tables may not appear the same way. Converting a Pages document to a plain text file will remove all the formatting, exporting only text.

✅ If you need to view a Pages file, drag the document to this window, and File Helper will display it directly in your browser.
